IBP: Two Decades of Excellence in Forensic Auditing and Investigation

By Ibptech

For over two decades, IBP Brasil has applied cutting-edge technology in forensic auditing and expert investigations. Founded in 2001 in response to the increasing number of legal disputes involving online transactions, IBP assembled highly specialized teams committed to delivering rigorous and reliable forensic results. From its inception, the organization established state-of-the-art laboratories dedicated to digital forensic analysis, ensuring that technical and scientific methodologies could support legal professionals and the corporate sector.

At the time, the American Chamber of Commerce (Brazil) highlighted IBP’s pioneering development of new technical and scientific procedures for cyber forensics, underscoring the importance of structured, evidence-based approaches in digital investigations.

In 2006, IBP expanded its expertise by introducing a multidisciplinary forensic phonetics division, bringing together specialists in speech pathology, electronic engineering, and information technology to analyze audio recordings used as legal evidence. This transdisciplinary approach—where experts from diverse fields collaborate in real-time—proved to be both innovative and effective, enhancing forensic methodologies and evidentiary assessments.

IBP also established technological partnerships and adopted globally recognized forensic tools, such as EnCase by Guidance Software for computer forensics and Cellebrite solutions for mobile device, tablet, and GPS analysis. Over the years, the organization further expanded its forensic capabilities to include audio, image, document, and handwriting analysis, applying multidisciplinary methods that have since defined a new standard in forensic investigation.

Forensic Engineering and Legal Disputes

The forensic engineering division has progressively expanded to address highly complex judicial disputes, encompassing areas such as:

  • Patent litigation in telecommunications systems
  • Monitoring of coverage and electromagnetic interference
  • Noise measurement and environmental impact assessments
  • Investigation of failures in electronic systems
  • Black box data analysis and accident reconstruction
  • Contractual disputes requiring forensic technical assessments

The organization has also distinguished itself in occupational safety engineering, operating on a national scale in legal proceedings related to hazardous and unhealthy working conditions, labor systems, and other occupational issues adjudicated in Brazilian labor courts.

Fraud Investigation and Digital Auditing

In the field of fraud detection and forensic risk assessment, IBP integrated advanced data analysis tools developed in collaboration with a leading international scientific research center. This has enabled forensic teams to conduct Digital Crimes Unit (DCU) investigations, aimed at identifying digital evidence, mitigating risks and cyber threats, and supporting the protection of individuals, institutions, corporations, brands, and intellectual property.

In forensic auditing, IBP has broadened its expertise to include governance and compliance assessments, benefiting from the transdisciplinary approach facilitated by its specialized forensic computing, forensic engineering, forensic phonetics, and economic-financial analysis teams. Additionally, IBP has played a key role in valuation assessments for high-technology sectors, particularly in the context of mergers, acquisitions (M&A), and arbitration or judicial proceedings.

IBP was also the first company in Brazil and the fourth worldwide to be recognized as an ISO BSA Verafirm-certified software asset management (SAM) auditor.

Training and Institutional Presence

Beyond its investigative and auditing activities, IBP has contributed to professional training, offering courses in Brazil’s major capitals to hundreds of forensic and judicial experts.

Since 2016, IBP has been headquartered in a modern facility in São Paulo’s Avenida Paulista district, equipped with advanced forensic laboratories, expert teams, and specialized methodologies, reinforcing its commitment to scientific excellence and forensic innovation.

More recently, IBP founded and maintains IBPTECH – Faculty of Forensic Sciences and Technology, a higher education institution accredited by the Ministry of Education of Brazil. Dedicated to advancing forensic sciences, IBPTECH offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and specialized training programs, fostering academic excellence and professional development in the field. By integrating scientific research, practical application, and interdisciplinary methodologies, IBPTECH reinforces IBP’s longstanding commitment to forensic expertise, contributing to the education of future professionals in forensic investigation, technology, and related disciplines.
